- Dr. Michael A. Trainor earned his Bachelor of Science Degree with Honors from the University of Notre Dame in 1992. He went on to complete medical school and orthopedic surgery residency training at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. Following residency, Dr. Trainor completed his spine and neurosurgical training at the Kenton D. Leatherman Spine Fellowship Program, through the University of Louisville, Louisville, Kentucky. Dr. Trainor is Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Trainor was in private practice in Prescott, Arizona from 2004 until 2015, when he relocated to the Las Vegas area.Dr. Michael Trainor joined Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine full-time in April 2015, in part to work alongside his identical twin brother, Dr. Timothy Trainor. Dr. Michael Trainor specializes is minimally invasive cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spinal surgery – including, minimally invasive fusions and microdiscectomy, as well as fracture care. Dr. Trainor performs many spinal surgeries in the outpatient surgical center setting. Dr. Trainor also performs general orthopedic care, including fracture surgery, carpal tunnel release, and arthroscopic knee surgery.Dr. Trainor is a member of the North American Spine Society, Society of Lateral Access Surgeons, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and American Osteopathic Association. Dr. Trainor has given lectures and taught other surgeons minimally invasive spine surgical techniques at several national spine meetings. Dr. Trainor holds active licenses in Arizona and Nevada. Dr. Trainor is on the Board of Trustees for the Mutual Insurance Company of Arizona. Dr. Trainor is on the Medical Executive Committee for Henderson Hospital. Dr. Trainor is on the medical staff at Centennial Hills Hospital, Durango Outpatient Surgery Center, Henderson Hospital, Parkway Surgery Center, Southern Hills Hospital, Spring Valley Hospital, St. Rose San Martin Hospital, and St. Rose Siena Hospital.Dr. Trainor was a four-time boxing champion at the University of Notre Dame, as well as the 1996 City of Chicago and Illinois State Golden Gloves Heavyweight Boxing Champion. In addition, Dr. Trainor competed in the 1996 U.S. Olympic Boxing Pretrials, through the National Golden Gloves Boxing Championships. Dr. Trainor has served as an oral examiner for the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Trainor is married with three children. Dr. Trainor strives to return his patients to active and healthy lifestyles, with both surgical and nonsurgical care of their orthopedic problems.

Dr. Trainor is an exceptional surgeon. I came in with severe cervical stenosis with symptoms including equilibrium balance, both hands were numb and had shooting pain in both shoulders.
Dr Trainor explained the serious nature and after testing, scheduled surgery. I am pain free with no issues. The entire staff is very knowledgeable and capable. I believe I am very fortunate to have Dr Trainor as my surgeon and highly recommend AOSM for all orthopedic needs.

What I appreciate most about Dr. Trainor is his willingness to provide all the time necessary to sit and answer any questions and address any concerns you may have regarding diagnoses, procedures, etc. His “If it ain’t broke” approach to surgery is tried and true and as a result I feel so much better! Attitude reflects leadership and you see this as soon as you step thru the door and you’re greeted by the staff. I love a doctor who says I know what this is and I know what to do, and that's what Michael did for me. He is also extremely skilled and experienced in minimal invasive spine surgery. I did my due diligence and researched almost every spine surgeon in the valley before deciding to choose Dr. Mike Trainor. I recently had surgery done to my neck, and despite some unforeseen complications, I could not have been happier with the result or the care I received. Years of life shortening pain were immediately gone and the recovery so far goes very smoothly. I’d do it again in a heartbeat!

In my case, I had cervical spine stenosis with radiating pain and numbness, after the surgery the pain was completely gone and hasn’t returned. The recovery process so far is going well without any pain or problems.

I have had lower back problems for 37 years. Dr Michael Trainor took care of me after another very popular doctor said there was nothing wrong with me. In August I developed left leg pain that was unbearable and that other doctor told me there was nothing wrong with me but I could not walk. Dr Michael Trainor figured it out that it was coming from L4 and L5 and that's why it was radiating down the front of my leg. He not only took care of the pain for L4 and L5 but at the same time did a Fusion on L5 S1 and was able to relieve both my right leg pain for 37 years and the current left leg pain is healing nicely I did have to have two surgeries. I can't think him enough for helping me out in a time of need. And he is a pretty cool guy to talk to!

I am currently seeing Michael Trainor for my right hip. However, he performed the surgery on my left shoulder a few years back and I couldn’t be happier. He was very informative about the rehab and made me see the importance of it which I do now have full range of motion of my arm and shoulder never gave it another thought afterwards now I may be facing a hip replacement, but I couldn’t think of a better doctor. Over all my experience was wonderful. Starting with the Front off staff. I arrived 40 min early to fill out paperwork. Back office came and took me right at my appointment time.
Everyone was friendly, office was calm. I felt completely at ease.
I met with Dr Trainor’s PA and assistant first. She asked me some questions and what my concerns were then left saying that the doctor would be in soon to see me. Within 10 minutes, Dr. Trainor came in and we discussed what I was there for and what my concerns were what my pain was. This is the third ORTHOPEDIC that I’ve been to in two years since my fall, nothing has gotten better but worse so to be honest I was a little skeptical . Dr. Trainor put me at ease and ordered some tests. With a follow up to come back and see him for the results . For the first time I felt hopeful that maybe something would get done or get better and that this doctor actually really cared .

Dr Trainor is one fantastic surgeon. My pain down my left leg is gone and with therapy I'm sure things will get better. He came in to preoperative several times to check on me. He makes you feel like a person not a procedure. Two years ago I went to him for a second opinion because another Dr said I needed a knee replacement because my knee was always hurting, Dr Trainor said I'm sure it's your back. Dr. Trainor reviewed and described in detail the problem with my cervical spine condition. He did an estensive physical examination too. Afterwards, he felt that surgery was not justified since I was not experiencing any physical or neurological symptoms in comparison to other surgeons who were quick to want to perform surgery. I felt confident with his analysis and do not need to follow up with him unless I am experiencing symptoms. I highly recommend Dt. M. Yesterday, was the first day my boyfriend had his follow up visit after having an emergency back procedure done at our local hospital. Dr. Trainor did not perform the surgery, but we were referred to him from the insurance for the follow up and boy did we get lucky! Dr. Trainor went above and beyond taking the time to explain his options and went into great detail about each option he had, while explaining everything to us and also letting us know what to expect in the future. You could tell he is genuinely concerned seeing such a young man in his office with back issues. My boyfriend was put to ease once his questions were answered. I have received treatment from Dr. Michael Trainor for a number of old sports related injuries which had severely limited my mobility as I approached 80. These included spinal cord related issues which impaired by ability to walk.. However after numerous tests, X-Rays, and ultrasounds, Dr. Trainor with the assistance of various
associates was able to either eliminate the condition or mitigate it to the point where it was no longer an impediment to my normal

While in ER I was told that Dr. Trainer was assigned to be the surgeon. Because of the hundreds of blisters that I formed on my leg from the swelling, we had to wait a few days before surgery. Doctor Trainer came to visit me and met with my daughter and explained every single detail about my surgery very patiently and kindly. His bedside manner is impeccable. Dr. Michael Trainor has been nothing short of amazing in the way he has mitigated the effects of Spinal Stenosis on both myself and my wife using non-surgical approaches. The age-related Stenosis had been both painful and debilitating. However Dr. Trainor's approach
to physical therapy delivered dramatic improvement within 2 weeks of my first visit. The therapy took place at the Sports + P/T Center which he helped develop. The level of care there features some Ph. d. level therapists. When I began, my left leg was so ravaged by
stenosis I could not get up off the floor without assistance. However, after 4 visits with my therapist, Dr. Martin, I found myself able to stand up reasonably easy, and am now at a point where I am as physically strong as I ever was at 78. While there are still a few lingering effects of the Stenosis, I can now go about all of my daily tasks easily. Dr. Trainor deserves 5 stars in every sense of that rating.

From my 1st visit, prepandemic, I knew that I had found the right surgeon. My wife, who was with me on all visits, agreed that he is the best. Very cordial, extremely informative and polite are just a few of the praises that I have for him. He deserves to be rated as THE BEST in Las Vegas. My surgery went really well and he was able to get me discharged the same day as my surgery. Today was my post op meeting. Less than three weeks after my laminectomy I am feeling way better than I ever thought I would. He said that it would take patients 6-12 weeks to fully recover after surgery. After our visit, today, we both agreed that I am in the 6 week recovery plan. I can’t give any more recommendations other than HE’S THE BEST!!!!

Before deciding to get a spinal fusion I did my research about Dr. Trainor. I needed the surgery because of a bad car wreck, but unfortunately as a Union Ironworker and former Paratrooper in the Army, spinal injuries and back issues go hand in hand. So, it didnt take long to find a couple coworkers that have had the same surgery I needed. They had nothing but great things about him. Even saying he's one of the best in the Southwest. I could easily tell he knew the types of injuries that come with my occupation. And extremely informative about literally everything. As far as the surgery itself. WOW! It's only been 6 weeks since my operation and my back feels beyond amazing. I can even tell a slight improvement in my posture and that's not even what my surgery was for. Dr. Trainer couldn't have been more informative. He explained everything and answered all of my questions in a way that I completely understood, especially when my mother was asking questions. Also, I'm a Union Ironworker. I could tell he knew quite a bit about the injuries that come with my occupation and how the car wreck effected it. After my car accident I started asking the older people I work with about their back injuries, and quite a few of them had been prior patients of Dr. Trainers. They say that the back surgeries he performed on them made them feel like they had the spine of an eighteen year old! And it was the best decision they could have made. I definitely feel like I'm also making the right decision by going to him. Thank you guys! He's been recommended by a surprisingly high amount of people.

New patient. Front Office staff excellent. They were professional, but very nice & people friendly. There aren't enough nice/positive words to say about Dr. Michael. He explained EVERYTHING so that it was clearly understood. He was professional and very pleasant. He even made my husband very

I have been to several physicians most recently for a few things I’ve got going on & today was one more that I figured would be just like the rest ,rushed and not given much information , boy I was so wrong. While I did wait an extremely long time to see Dr Trainor I must say it was well worth the wait. Dr Trainor came in knowing exactly what was happening to me . I did explain as thorough as I could so he would be able to help me.
Dr Trainor explained so thoroughly to me the anatomy of the spine and why this and that occurs . He gave me my options for which I will follow because it made sense . He showed that he cares and has a passion for what he does . He shared his knowledge and it was evident that it was important to him that I truly understood . Wow , this was how doctors years ago used to be .
I thank him for his kindness and his empathy . I thank him for showing me he cared and I wasn’t a number or Just another complaining patient. From my heart ,you are wonderful.

My adventure started with my fall were as I was found to have injured my right hip and so it called for surgery. This is where Doctor Michael Trainor entered my surgery room and complete the necessary surgery. He was outstanding as the surgery went extremly well. Dr. Trainor took the time after the surgery to provide me all the details of the injury and what he had just performed. I am grateful for his service. This Doctor will be a friend of mine forever.

Dr. Michael Trainor is absolutely one of the best. He accurately diagnosed my issue on the first visit, referred me for alternate therapy reserving surgery as a last-resort choice, and his referral was able to resolve the issue completely. He acknowledged from the start that the issue may reoccur at some point in the future but his approach to finding less invasive therapies first is reassuring and works. His congenial personality, professionalism, and ability to convey the entire picture makes him a pleasure to deal with. I recommend him highly.

The surgery 4 weeks later was a complete success and I have had no pain on my left side. I had been unable to run, shoot baskets, walk without pain, and Dr. Trainor's surgical skills put me back into the game. I am 75, and in October was able to participate in the Nevada Senior Games. I was awarded 3 medals in the basketball competition, and seven medals in track and field events at UNLV. All THANKS to Dr. Michael Trainor.

Dr Trainor is a true prefessional. He is caring, empathetic, and understands how to explain (in layman's terms) what needs to be done to correct a problem. He is thorough and my grandmothers hip & femur surgery went great. After the surgery she had very little pain and her recovery was monitored closely to ensure success in a full recovery. I have known and worked with Dr. Trainor for many years. When you work in healthcare as a nurse, you know who to see and who not to see and I let Dr. Trainor do surgery on my knee without hesitation. He is the best physician in any specialty I have ever encountered! He fused my L5-S1 with a total, successful recovery. My back is perfect due to his skill and expertise. Unfortunately, he has moved from Prescott, Az to Las Vegas, but I would go to Vegas for his care and treatment in a heartbeat!

They gave me a first appt within two hours of my call for 6pm (AFTER hours!) to treat my back pain. they wanted paperwork filled out before the appt so the receptionist offered to drive to my house, help me fill it out and bring it (and me) back for the appt. she offered before knowing where i live! At my appt, two kind staff met me in the parking lot offering help. Trainor was superb. Calm, careful, empathetic, warm, professional, competent, comprehensive. He spent from 6 - 7pm explaining everything in great details with great empathy. He provided a clear path forwards and Rx solutions for my pain. A week later we reconvened and again he spent over an hour with me. I did have to wait but i understood he spends an hour or more with EVERY patient! His care, concern, expertise were top-rate. Superb. Both Trainor and staff are professional, organized, empathetic, fast, engaged, personable, responsive. Clear communications, personalized service. above/beyond the call of duty in every way.
